There is , There are / Hay

En ingles, cuando queremos decir que "hay algo" o que "existe algo" utilizamos el There is / There are. Como los verbos indican, "There is" se usa para el singular y el "There are" para plural. Las formas en negativo son "There isn't (is not)" y "There aren't (are not)".    In English, when we want to say that something exists we use There is / There are. As the verbs indicate, "There is" is used for the singular and "There are" for the plural. The negative forms are "There isn't (is not)" and "There aren't (are not)"

There is a book on the table.   Hay un libro en la mesa.
There isn't any book on the table.   No hay ningun libro en la mesa.
There are some apples on the table.   Hay algunas manzanas en la mesa.
There are not any apples on the table.   No hay manzanas en la mesa.

Para hacer una pregunta, solo necesitaremos invertir el orden.    If you want to ask a question, all you need to do is to invert the order.

Is there a book on the table?   ¿Hay un libro en la mesa?

Isn't there a book on the table?   ¿No hay un libro en la mesa?
Are there any apples on the table?   ¿Hay algunas manzanas en la mesa?
Aren't there any apples on the table?   ¿No hay manzanas en la mesa?

Por supuesto, tambien podemos decirlo en pasado.    Of course, we can also say it in the past tense.

Was there a book on the table?   ¿Habia un libro en la mesa?

There were some apples on the table.   Habia unas manzanas en la mesa.
Weren't there any apples on the table?   ¿No habia unas manzanas en la mesa?
There was a book on the table.   Habia un libro en la mesa.
